FLYING FREE

FLYING FREE
VOLANDO LIBRE
(Autor/Author: Don Besig)

There is a place I call my own
Where I can stand by the sea
And look beyond the things I've known
And dream that I might be free

Like a bird above the trees
Gliding gently on the breeze
I wish that all my life I'd be
Without a care and flying free

But life is not a distant sky
Without a cloud, without rain
And I can never hope that I
Can travel on without pain
Time goes swiftly on its way
All too soon we've lost today
I cannot wait for skies of blue
Or dream so long
That life is through

Y nunca puedo esperar
Poder viajar sin dolor
El tiempo pasa rápidamente a su manera
Demasiado pronto nos hemos perdido hoy
No puedo esperar cielos azules
O un sueño tan largo
pues la vida se acaba

Altos: So life's a song that I must sing, a gift of love I must share

Sopranos: so life’s a song, a gift of life I must share.

Altos: And when I see the joy it brings, my spirits soar through the air
Sopranos: and when I see, my spirits soar through the air

All: Like that bird up in the sky, life has taught me how to fly

For now I know what I can be And now my heart is flying free Oooooo…

Somewhere, over the rainbow, way up high,
And the dreams that you dreamed of,
Once in a lullaby.

Oh, somewhere over the rainbow,
blue birds fly, And the dreams that you dreamed of,
Dreams really do come true.

Someday, I'll wish upon a star,
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me.
Where trouble melts like lemon drops,
High above the chimney top,
That's where you'll find me.

Oh, somewhere, over the rainbow, bluebirds fly,
And the dreams that you dare to.
Oh why, oh why can't I?

¿Oh, porqué, porqué no puedo soñar?

Well, I see trees of green and red roses too,
I'll watch them bloom for me and you.
And I think to myself: What a wonderful world!

Well, I see skies of blue and I see clouds of white,
And the brightness of day.
I like the dark and I think to myself:
What a wonderful world!

The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky,
Are also on the faces of people passing by.
I see friends shaking hands, saying, 'How do you do?'
They're really saying, ' I...I love you!'

I hear babies cry, and I watch them grow,
They'll learn much more than we'll know.
And I think to myself: What a wonderful world!

Someday, I'll wish upon a star,
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me.
Where trouble melts like lemon drops,
High above the chimney top,
That's where you'll find me.

Oh, somewhere, over the rainbow, way up high.
And the dreams that you dare to,
Oh why, oh why can't I?

¿Oh, porqué, porqué no puedo soñar?

Ooooo oooooo oooooo
Ooooo oooooo oooooo
Ooo ah, ah, ah... eh ah ah, eh ah ah ah ah...

BUON GIORNO, PRINCIPESSA

GOOD MORNING, PRINCESS.
Good morning, princess of the marshes, you woke up today with this beautiful evening gown in heavenly white and I was captivated by your magnificent beauty. I am still absorbed watching this divine vision that excites me even in the deepest abyss in my soul. Not every day you have the chance to see up close a cherub in its intimacy. In this beautiful sunrise, the stars and the moon are reluctant to leave the sky to contemplate this beauty so sublime that hurts all the hearts as sweetly as those arrows that are shot by that playful child, that little god Eros.

LITTLE EGRET
The Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) is about 55-65 cm long with a wingspan of 88 to 106 cm, and weighs 350-550 grams. Its plumage is all white. It has long black legs with yellow feet and a slim black bill. During the breeding season, two long, fine feathers fall from the neck, the feathers on the back and chest are longer and fall like a fringe and its grayish bare skin between the bill and eyes becomes more red or blue. Juveniles are similar to non-breeding adults, but their legs are greenish black and fingers are duller yellow. The bare skin between the peak and the eye is greenish gray. Individuals of the subspecies nigripes has yellow skin between the beak and eyes and legs are very dark. They nest in large colonies of breeding on big bushes near marsh environments.

FLAMENCOS - FLAMINGOS

GREATER FLAMINGO (Phoenicopterus roseus)

This is the largest species of flamingos. They are about 110-150 cm (43-60 inches) tall and weigh 2-4 kg (4.4-8.8 lbs). Male individuals reach larger sizes than the females. The largest males measure up to 187 cm (74 inches) tall and weigh 4.5 kg (10 lbs). The bill is bright pink with black end. The plumage is whitish pink almost white in most parts of the body, except for the wings that are colored strongly bright red. The legs are entirely pink. The neck is extremely long and sinuous. It has 19 very elongated cervical (neck) vertebrae allowing for maximum movement and complete twisting. The flamingo's call reminds the goose's.

Flamingos' feeding is formed of small organisms that live in the bed of saline wetlands. The anatomical configuration of their bill makes this one a powerful tool for filtering sludge where they find the food particles of their diet. Inside the bill, there is a large amount of corneal lamellae which act as a sieve which filters the mud because of the suction and ejection forces made by its vigorous tongue.

The close links between the Greater flamingo and saline lake environments has led to coevolutionary processes with other species of these ecosystems. This is the case of the Flamingolepis liguloides, an invertebrate (parasitic flatworm belonging to the class Cestoda) of the same gender as tapeworms which is host of the crustacean Artemia salina, very important basis of the diet of the Greater flamingo from which it obtains the pink pigment that colors their feathers, beak and legs.

The scientific name of this elegant creature in the marshes is Recurvirostra avosetta.

Fortunately, I only needed a couple of photographic sessions to capture the evolution from chick's plumula to adult plumage. I take this opportunity to send a greeting to Guillermo Martín Belmonte, a great friend of mine and sidekick in my birding aventures with which I was fortunate to share these "photographic safaries" in the marshes of the Guadalquivir river.

AVES MARISMEÑAS - BIRDS IN THE MARSHLANDS

 Garcilla bueyera
Cattle Egret
(Bubulcus Ibis)

 Cigüeñuela común
Black-winged Stilt
(Himantopus himantopus)

 Espátula común
Common Spoonbill
(Platalea leurocodia)

 Garceta común
Little Egret
(Egretta garzetta)

 Archibebe claro
Common Greenshank
(Tringa nebularia)

Somormujo lavanco
Great Crested Grebe
(Podiceps cristatus)

Archibebe común
Common Redshank
(Tringa totanus)

 Buitrón
Zitting Cisticola
(Cisticola juncidis)

 Calamón común
Purple Swamphen
(Porphyrio porphyrio)

Garza real
Grey Heron
(Ardea cinerea)

Lechuza común
Barn Owl
(Tyto alba)

J. S. Bach - Cantata BWV 191 - Gloria in excelsis Deo - 1 - Chorus (J. S. Bach Foundation).
I love the music of Johannes Sebastian Bach. Me encanta la música de J.S. Bach.

The marshes of the Guadalquivir is the largest inland delta in Europe with an area of about 2,000 km ². These vast plains are the result of clogging of the ancient estuary by the accumulation of marine and fluvial deposits of alluvium. Much of these lands are still flooded today. During the rainy season, the marsh becomes a huge wetland due to its flat surface, its proximity to sea level and the impervious materials in the subsoil. The sand dunes that surround these marshlands have the function of providing water to the aquifer. The depth of the underground water is so shallow that a few rainfalls cause the flooding of a huge area.

This marsh is characterized by its extremely marked horizontality. Where most deprived areas are located, water is retained for a longer period. The higher areas remain dry most of the year, except during periods of great flooding. Another main feature of these lowlands is the marked seasonality (typical Mediterranean climate), where very long dry seasons come after rainy seasons with torrential rainfalls. During the springtime, wetlands extend to a large area and are the scene of an explosion of biodiversity.

Here are some species that live in this rich ecosystem.
